The third BAFA Opal Flag football tournament of 2018 took place Saturday November 3rd.
The East Kilbride Pirates extended their unbeaten season with another illustrious display in Staffordshire. The Pirates won their three games with two shut outs and only conceded six points to the Manchester Titans.
The second place Sheffield Giants won their three games in Chorley. Their only defeat in the Opal series came at the hands of the Pirates (31-19). The Giants will have an opportunity for revenge in the final tournament on November 17th when they travel to East Kilbride.
The South was also played in two locations. The Coventry Cougars controlled the games played in Staffordshire. In three games, the Cougars scored 182 points while conceding just 6 to the Cougar Juniors.
The Hyde Park Renegades outplayed their opposition in a dominant display in Portsmouth. Most noteworthy, the Renegades performance was even more impressive because of a small squad of just seven players.
As a result of playing both offense and defense, it can sap a player’s stamina. Not with the Renegades. They overshadowed their two opponents 100-16.
The one defeat for the Renegades was a 58-6 loss in a previous tournament to the Cougars. The rematch will be in Warwick November 17.
