The Oklahoma Sooners avenged their only loss of the season, beating their rival Texas Longhorns in the BIG12 Championship game. Star quarterback Kyler Murray threw a touchdown with two minutes left to finish off Texas.
The Longhorns Fast Start
Oklahoma won the toss and deferred, giving Texas the ball to start. The longhorns drove down the field and quarterback Sam Ehlinger rushed for a Touchdown. The defense then backed up the offense and frustrated the Sooners who had their worst offensive quarter of the year.
However, once the game entered the second quarter, penalties began to mount up against the Texas defense as Murray began to grow into the game. The Heisman Trophy contender underlined his claim with a stunning set of back to back touchdowns either side of half time. It flipped the game to Oklahoma’s favour and the Sooners didn’t look back.
The Oklahoma defense has been much maligned this season, giving up a mountain of yards and making life tough for this historic Oklahoma offense week after week. However when the offense needed them in this game, they made plays. A safety two plays after Ceedee Lamb fumbled near the Longhorns goal line stretched the lead to five and a Tre Norwood interception with 51 seconds left confirmed Oklahoma’s victory.
The victory should see the Sooners climb into the College Football Playoff spots, a matchup with the unbeaten Alabama Crimson Tide awaits. Whilst Texas will be left rueing a missed opportunity to vanquish their rivals and secure a title that looked out of their reach after a week one loss to Maryland.
