The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have brought back Jeff Reinebold as their special teams coordinator after a one year hiatus in BC.
You might wonder why we wold track the movement of one coach. Plenty of others are moving after all. The CFL coaching carousel has been as active as ever.
We do it because Jeff has a connection with the UK fan base. He has been involved with NFLUK live tours. As well as covering the NFL on Sky Sports. He can even occasionally be seen at an NFL viewing party in the UK.
Jeff is a recognised and respected face for UK football fans. For me he can be a gateway for NFL fans who take a casual interest in the CFL. If they know Jeff is coaching at a team they might be a little more intrigued.
Reinebold previously spent four productive seasons as Hamilton’s special teams coordinator from 2013-2016. A brief tenure as defensive coordinator for the 2017 season was less successful.
Reinebold was on the Ti-Cats staff with new head coach Orlondo Steinauer for four years, including two Grey Cup appearances. He also has a strong relationship with associate head coach and offensive coordinator June Jones. They were previously together at Southern Methodist University and the University of Hawaii.
Judging by the reaction online, Reinebold will be very welcome back in ‘the Hammer’. Or as Jeff himself would no doubt say on his twitter account:
MAHALO TIME TO GO TO WORK. If you’ve ever seen his enthusiastic block capital laden account you’ll know what I mean!
