The Minnesota Vikings are coming off the back of one of their worst seasons in recent memory. This is due in large part to their chances of doing well prior to the 2018 season and then their ultimate failure to do so by the conclusion of the campaign. With their misfortunes put to bed, they look to improve on their record this year by enhancing the quality among their offensive line. What better way to do so than by adding Garrett Bradbury out of NC State.
Pat Elflein’s questionable 2018 season may have played a part in this selection, which will probably see him moved to guard in the forthcoming season. Thus, Bradbury will fill that center spot immaculately.
Firstly because he is undeniably THE best center in the class. If not the best in the last five years. Although he was originally drafted as a tight end out of high school, Bradbury quickly found comfort snapping the football. He boasts experience playing guard, but after an unreal 2018 season as the team’s starting center, he won the Rimington Trophy, just like Elflein. In addition to that feat, he was also named a Consensus All-American. Furthermore, he garnered First Team All-ACC status too.
It’s no surprise really, Bradbury is a physical specimen. At 6-3, 300lbs, he is a dominant force at the LOS, whilst his leaner frame allows for unmatched quickness and agility. He’s an elite zone blocker, who has fantastic football IQ and has an undeniable ability to recover if he is caught off-guard. Pro Football Focus ranked him at 84.4 in their offensive lineman rankings, which is second among this year’s OL prospects. Most importantly, Bradbury is a leader. He earned the ‘C’ badge at NC State and led by example as a three-year starter for the Wolfpack. Something I hope he can transcend into his professional career.
Bradbury received high praise from multiple sources ahead of his selection. 18-year NFL Scout Jim Nagy had the following to say regarding his talent.
“Love this Vikings pick! Nobody in this year’s draft plays their position better than Garrett Bradbury plays center.”
Aside from the draft ‘gurus’ out there, Viking fans were delighted with the selection. Take a look at these dedicated #Skol supporters for example.
