LSU Outlasts Texas In All Time Classic
Reading Time: 2 minutes.

AUSTIN TX – LSU Quarterback Joe Burrow underlined his Heisman case with a superb offensive performance as his team came in to Austin and defeated the Texas Longhorns in a Saturday Night Shootout! Burrow threw for over 470 yards and four touchdowns as he gashed the Texas defense. The new look LSU offense was once again explosive both through the air and on the ground. The Tigers are going to challenge anyone in the SEC, they finally have an offense who can compete with the best.

On the other side of the ball. Sam Ehlinger also put in a superb performance. The Texas talisman threw for over 400 yards and four touchdowns, even bringing Texas back to within seven points as time wound down. However on this occasion it just wasn’t quite enough. Star wide receiver Collin Johnson just couldn’t corral an onside kick which would have put Texas in range of completing a remarkable comeback with 20 seconds left.

Twists and Turns

It was a night of twists and turns, with LSU leading 10-7 and under two minutes left in the half. Tom Herman called an aggressive timeout and went into the two minute offense. Consequently when Sam Ehlinger and the Texas offense went three and out, LSU had a chance to go into halftime up 13. Burrow took the opportunity and put LSU in control.

For much of the second half, both offense traded touchdowns. Texas receiver Devin Duvernay went off for 136 second half yards and four major chain moving catches. On the other side of the ball Justin Jefferson had a monster day for LSU. Catching three touchdowns and gaining over 160 yards. He was one of three LSU receivers to go over 100 yards, when you think of the names that have come out of LSU in the past. Maybe this crop can be as good as that famed class.

Top Tier Confirmation

Last night stood as confirmation that both of these programs are back among the elite of college football. LSU could be ranked as high as number two in the AP poll this week, whilst Texas shouldn’t drop too far for being on the wrong end of a classic. Both teams figure to feature in the top 6 or 7 spots as we head towards the business end of the season.

LSU is a legitimate all round squad. They have a nasty defense with lock down corners and a scary pass rush. In addition they have an offense that can create big plays against talented defenders. Joe Burrow is a Heisman contender with famed leadership skills and toughness. LSU have the perfect mix of talent and schedule to make a real championship run, they suffer from being in the same division as Alabama. But one day their time will come, it could well be this year.
