NASHVILLE TN – The Tennessee Titans couldn’t complete a 2-0 start to their season as they lost at home to the Colts. It was a sloppy game which neither team was able to grab hold of. In spite of his team winning, most of the headlines will be about Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri. The kicking legend was off target for a second straight week, missing multiple extra points and putting his team behind the eight ball.
It was a day where offenses misfired across the board. Neither quarterback threw for more than 160 yards and neither team had a 100 yard rusher. However it would be Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett who stepped up and won the game. Brissett found TY Hilton with 4:38 left in the game to put the Colts ahead by 2. Vinatieri would miss the extra point and give the Titans a chance to win the game. However, Marcus Mariota couldn’t get it done.
The Titans quarterback wasn’t at his best over the course of the game. His offensive line was porous, allowing Mariota to be pressured constantly. The Titans run game worked well, Derrick Henry had 81 yards at 5.4 yards per carry. Those numbers are solid, but with the Titans playing from behind they couldn’t feed Henry more.

A few hours south in Houston Texas, the Texans and Jaguars played out a similar slugfest. With 30 seconds left Jaguars quarterback and folk hero Gardner Minshew II broke from the pocket and threw the touchdown to pull the Jaguars back to within one point. Coach Marrone decided to go for two and win the game. The Jaguars put the ball into the hands of Leonard Fournette and second year safety Justin Reid stepped up and stopped Fournette short.
The Texans offensive performance was defined by content sacks of star young quarterback Deshaun Watson. No-one was able to stop the Jaguars defenders getting home. The Texans need to find a way to protect Watson or they will waste the prime of their stars career. Something that as a football fan, I wouldn’t be able to forgive them for.
