The CFL has named the players who have been selected as the 2019 All-Stars.
It must almost be December. For CFL fans the season is over and the off-season is in full swing. This time of year means one other thing too. In the run up to the festive season the CFL reveals its own pre-Christmas stars.
The 57th annual Canadian Football League All-Stars were named when they were selected by 49 voters comprised of members of the Football Reporters of Canada and the league’s head coaches.
It is always interesting to make comparisons. This is the third All-Star ballot since we started covering the CFL. It looks quite different to those of 2017 & 2018.
The Numbers
Eight of the nine teams saw at least one selction made from their roster. 9 players were selected from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. 5 from the Saskatchewan Roughriders. 3 from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Montreal Alouettes & Calgary Stampeders.
Rounding things out were 2 players from the BC Lions and one each from the Edmonton Eskimos and Ottawa REBLACKS.
The 4-14 Toronto Argonauts failed to register a single All-Star. A touch of familiarity for Argos’ fans because this 4-14 season mirrors last year’s 4-14 record which saw no All-Stars selected too.
There was a very even Divisional split this year. With 14 West Division selections and 13 from the East Division.
