Christian Darrisaw is a top offensive tackle in this Draft class. He ranks in the top 3 on our big board and he is a player who will likely be a top 20 overall talent once the NFL Draft begins.

Born in Petersburg, Virginia, Darrisaw attended Riverdale Baptist High School where he wasn’t a high recruit. Entering college as a 3 star recruit, according to 247Sports.com. Darrisaw played for Fork Union Military Academy before transferring to Virginia Tech in 2018.

And what a decision that turned out to be! Becoming the starting left tackle in his freshman season, he played every game in 2019 and played 9 games before opting out in 2020. He was named an All-Team ACC player during 2020 and showed he is one of the top tackle prospects available in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Darrisaw is a prospect who is expected to go high in April. That’s because Darrisaw is a freaky player who has exceptional size and measurables to pair with his special athleticism.

See the video below which shows why Chrsitan Darrisaw will be such a prized prospect in this years draft. Remember you are looking for LT #77!

STRENGTHS

  • Measurables
  • Strength
  • Movement
  • Shifty Hands

Darrisaw is a prospect who ticks all the right boxes. He has great size, he plays with immense power and has excellent movement skills.

To start with, Darrisaw has prototypical size. He will meet all the necessary measurable benchmarks. But, it is not his size alone that makes him great. It’s what he can do with the size that makes Darrisaw such a sort after prospect.

One of Darrisaw’s best traits is his mobility. Someone of Darrisaw’s size just shouldn’t have the pace or movement that he possesses.  He is able to get off the line quickly and is able to climb to the second level with ease when asked.

Darrisaw is a puller when in space and doesn’t let up. He will take his man with him to create gaps in the run game. His ability to block on the outside is a huge plus for the team that picks him. Darrisaw has the bend to stay with edge rushers, but also has the strength to deal with the bull rush.

The power and strength Darrisaw plays with is exceptional. He has a nasty streak and he plays to the whistle. Finishing off opponents for fun. He is an absolute tyrant who straight up bullies his opposition. He is a dominant force and will be a foundational block for any NFL team.

Darrisaw’s ability to play so strong while remaining so flexible is astonishing and is a rare find. His anchor is persistent and his push off is stunning. Darrisaw is a smooth player who has dominated at his level. He is a commander up front and he possesses all the qualities to be successful at the next level.

WEAKNESSES

  • Awareness
  • Play Counters

There isn’t a lot to dislike about Darrisaw’s game. He possesses a lot of qualities that NFL teams will be searching for in any Draft. But, on tape there are a couple of areas that Darrisaw will be looking to improve on as he becomes a pro.

His overall awareness and his recovery technique.

For all that Darrisaw does well, he could read the game better at times. He can over/under set on some plays causing him to be susceptible to being beaten by oncoming speed rushers. Darrisaw needs to work on diagnosing plays early, especially when he is dropping back into pass protection.

As for his recovery, it is a small thing that will add a huge amount to his game. Darrisaw has super sticky and punchy hands but, there are some plays where if he could get his hands up earlier, he could set himself up to win the duel.

Learning to cope with the opposition’s counter, as well as, mastering his own, will only stand him in good stead as he transitions. No player is going to win every snap, it is how you react and recover after the initial hit. Adding some skills, as well as keeping those hands active, will only help Darrisaw.

It’s a matter of refining what Darrisaw already does well, but it will help him achieve on every play. Being able to read the situation and use his skills to break any counter will only make Darrisaw more polished as he enters the NFL.
