Kayvon Thibodeaux is a top prospect and is the best pass rusher to enter the NFL Draft in some time. In a talented edge rusher class, Thibodeaux is head and shoulders above everyone else and will be one of the top overall players drafted in the 2022 Draft.
Born in Los Angeles: California, Kayvon Thibodeaux attended Susan Miller Dorsey High School before transferring to Oaks Christian School. At Oaks Christian, Thibodeaux was named Defensive Player of the Year while also being named first-team All-California.
Thibodeaux showed just how much of a dynamic, electric playmaker he is during his high school career recording 54 sacks. Committing to Oregon ahead of multiple different offers, Kayvon Thibodeaux was recruited as the top ranked player by ESPN, while becoming the highest rated signee in Oregon history.
At Oregon, Kayvon Thibodeaux has gone on to dominate the college game. Winning a myriad of awards, including being named in the Freshman All-American Team by The Athletic, USA Today, 247 Sports and PFF. In his sophomore season, Thibodeaux won the Morris Trophy while again earning multiple All-American honours.
In 2021 Kayvon Thibodeaux has continued his domination and looks set to be drafted at the top of the first round in the 2022 NFL Draft.
When on the field, Thibodeaux is by far and away the best player and athlete out there, he has literally everything to be successful at the next level.
Thibodeaux’s athletic profile is otherworldly. Explosive, quick, powerful and dynamic. There is nothing he cannot do and cannot go on to achieve.
Combined with his size, build and length, Kayvon Thibodeaux is one of the most exciting prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Watch the video below which shows how Thibodeaux is able to be so effective.
Simply, Kayvon Thibodeaux is a havoc causer. He is about as complete a player you will see in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Thibodeaux has elite athleticism. He is a pure athlete who combines size with sudden speed and immense strength.
What’s more impressive is his motor. Kayvon Thibodeaux goes in on every play and never takes a snap off. He is super competitive, tough and physical.
As a pass rusher, Thibodeaux has all the tools to have double digit sacks in the NFL. His rush is explosive while his power is overwhelming. He is simply unblockable and can win in multiple different ways. Thibodeaux’s ability to rush with burst and speed means he explodes round the edge.
In terms of tools, his swim move is excellent, he has a brilliant up/under move, while his spin move is exceptional. He can change direction instantly, while maintaining explosive movement at every point.
When Thibodeaux deploys a spin it causes chaos for the opposition. On the occasion that a lineman is able to match Thibodeaux active hands he has a variety of counter moves in this arsenal.
When a player is this good at rushing the passer you often see a drop off in their ability in the run game. Not with Kayvon Thibodeaux. He is a huge contributor in the run game.
Thibodeaux has the ability to shed blocks and chase down runners. He has the ability to drive offensive linemen back and put them in the dirt. Once Thibodeaux has his hands planted he is a bulldozer and drives them back into the pocket and uses them as leverage.
Kayvon Thibodeaux is versatile enough to be effective over the middle while displaying great instincts, intelligence and awareness. He has an instantaneous release to win almost every time.
- Counter Moves
- More Control
Kayvon Thibodeaux is that good that we could easily just leave this section blank. But that wouldn’t make for a very good scouting report.
To find any weakness in Thibodeaux’s game is picky and overly critical. He is as good of a defensive end you will find coming out of college, but he still has room for development.
It is this lack of polish that will put fear into opposing NFL teams. Thibodeaux is already this good while he has nowhere near reached his peak yet.
As already mentioned, Thibodeaux has a good armory of counter moves. But, he could employ them better at times. His spin move is outstanding and he could use it more and to better effect. He is still raw and learning and it is horrifying for defenders that he can be so superior and productive just off his natural ability and athleticism.
All this comes because Thibodeaux is playing solely on feel. He is acting purely on instinct. While Thibodeaux has established more of a pass rush plan in 2021, he is still evolving and expanding it.
Once he has built his plan and plays with more control, he will become even more difficult to counter for offensive linemen. A scary proposition for any player or team he comes up against.
Also at Oregon he is sometimes asked to drop into coverage. Although, he has done this successfully to a high standard. To use such a unique pass rusher in this way is criminal. It is unlikely he will be asked to do this at the next level.
Some teams may want Kayvon Thibodeaux to add a bit of weight heading to the NFL. This will add to his functional strength and make his power and leverage even more dangerous.
Sitting right at the very top of this 2022 NFL Draft class, Kayvon Thibodeaux rightly will be seen as one of, if not the top prospect available.
He is going to be compared to Myles Garrett, Nick and Joey Bosa as well as Chase Young. Thibodeaux clearly holds his own against these pass rushers, who themselves were drafted highly. It is not outlandish to say Thibodeaux could be the best defensive end to enter the NFL Draft since Myles Garrett.
Likely to be the favourite to be drafted #1 overall, Kayvon Thibodeaux is as safe a pick as you will find in the 2022 NFL Draft.
