NFL Draft 2022: AFC East Team Grades

NFL Draft 2022: AFC East Team Grades
Reading Time: 3 minutes.

As we review the 2022 NFL Draft we will be giving out team grades for all 32 teams, going division by division.

We of course won’t know how these drafts will plan out until the players take to the field but here we grade each draft upon how we evaluated each player.

Here are our AFC East team grades.

Buffalo Bills – B-

A Natural: Elam's Quest to be Best Has Always Been There - Florida Gators
  • #23 – KAIIR ELAM – CB – Florida
  • #63 – JAMES COOK – RB – Georgia
  • #89 – TERREL BERNARD – LB – Baylor
  • #148 – KHALIL SHAKIR – WR – Boise St
  • #180 – MATT ARAIZA – P – San Diego St
  • #185 – CHRISTIAN BENFORD – CB – Villanova
  • #209 – LUKE TENUTA – OT – Virginia Tech
  • #231 – BAYLON SPECTOR – LB – Clemson

The Bills have taken some impact players who do improve the Bills from the off. Elam is a nice press corner, while James Cook will offer some more juice out of the backfield. Shakir will be a nice complementary piece in that receiver room, while “Punt God” Matt Araiza has been hyped.

Miami Dolphins – C+

Dolphins draft LB Channing Tindall: Instant analysis of the move

  • #102 – CHANNING TINDALL – LB – Georgia
  • #125 – ERIK EZUKANMA – WR – Texas Tech
  • #224 – CAMERON GOODE – DE – California
  • #247 – SKYLAR THOMPSON – QB – Kansas St

When factoring in that the reason the Dolphins did not have a top 100 pick because of the trades for Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, this draft grade is fair. Channing Tindall is a really nice prospect while Erik Ezukanma offers yet another weapon for Tua. The offensive line is still an issue, but there are more than enough weapons to work with in Miami.

New England Patriots – D-

Cole Strange - team grades

  • #29 – COLE STRANGE – IOL – Chattanooga
  • #50 – TYQUAN THORNTON – WR – Baylor
  • #85 – MARCUS JONES – CB – Houston
  • #121 – JACK JONES – CB – Arizona St
  • #127 – PIERRE STRONG – RB – South Dakota St
  • #137 – BAILEY ZAPPE – QB – W. Kentucky
  • #183 – KEVIN HARRIS – RB – S. Carolina
  • #200 – SAM ROBERTS – DT – Northwest Missouri St
  • #210 – CHASEN HINES – IOL – LSU
  • #245 – ANDREW STUEBER – OT – Michigan

Where do we start? There are more reaches here than on the S Club 7 reunion tour. Cole Strange will be a good player, but this just isn’t how you play the board. You could have traded back multiple times and still have been in position to draft him. Then, to not only take Tyquan Thornton in the 2nd, but to trade up to get him was insane. To give some credit, there were some nice pick ups on day 3, Chasen Hines and Pierre Strong are good players but it is difficult to see how this draft class immediately improves the Patriots enough.

New York Jets – A+

  • #4 – AHMAD GARDNER – CB – Cincinnati
  • #10 – GARRETT WILSON – WR – Ohio St
  • #26 – JERMAINE JOHNSON – DE – Florida St
  • #36 – BREECE HALL – RB – Iowa St
  • #101 – JEREMY RUCKERT – TE – Ohio St
  • #112 – MAX MITCHELL – OT – Louisiana
  • #117 – MICHEAL CLEMONS – DE – Texas A&M

It is difficult to see how the 2022 NFL Draft could have gone much better for Jets fans. They grabbed top players at their position and surrounded Zach Wilson with talent. Gardner, Wilson and Hall were all the top prospects at their position, while Jermaine Johnson was one of the premier players at his. Max Mitchell provides really good versatility and insurance on the offensive line, while Jeremy Ruckert will be a good option for Zach Wilson, while also supporting the running game as one of the top tight ends at blocking.
