The nine Canadian Football League clubs have unveiled ten players from each team’s negotiation list. This is the second time this year ten players have been made public, with the first release coming in February.
Some kudos has to go to Hamilton for this. They were ahead of the curve in opening up their list. Now the CFL is following suit. All because the league is realising the potential this has. It can still drive chatter and interest whilst the off-season is in full swing.
The truth is that a lot of the players listed won’t ever suit up in the CFL. A lot of them won’t even have been aware they were on the list. That is not really the point. If teams can open up, and get people talking that can only be a good thing.
It’s a good ploy by the league. Without releasing the negotiation list articles like this wouldn’t be in the news cycle. Would 3downnation have run a story about Mason Fine? Maybe. I don’t know. But I do know it was made all the more likely once it was revealed the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders had placed him on their negotiation list.
You can see the full list of released names here. It remains to be seen if any make it the CFL. Especially with competition from other leagues this time around. In the meantime it’s fun to talk and learn about these players in relation to the CFL. Just what the league wanted.
