College Football is one of the most unpredictable sports in the world. It’s one of the reasons we love the game so much. One week a team can be on the receiving end of a shock defeat, the next week they’re the one handing out the upset. Just look at USC who lost in a surprise to BYU in Week 3, but upset 10 ranked Utah last time out.
This unpredictably is a big part of what makes our Pick 6 game so fun. What may feel like a slam dunk may leave you with egg on your face. New to the competition? Why?! Each week we select 6 games from the vast slate of college football and the trio of College Chaps pick the winner. We tally them up through the season to crown a total College Football genius.
Each week we’re joined by a Pick 6 guest star and they contribute to a season score, plus have their own leader board. Last week, we were joined by the team at NFL Draft Diamonds who were let down by Arizona State and Texas A & M.
Predictions Table After Week 4:

For this week’s Pick 6, we’re joined by a man who will be familiar to the UK audience. Nat Coombs is the original face of NFL coverage in this country, going back to his days fronting Channel 5’s coverage of the league with Mike Carlson. He currently works for ESPN UK and hosts the The Nat Coombs Show which you can find right here. An avid Miami Dolphins fan (sorry Nat), he acknowledges that his NFL knowledge is greater than his College Football acumen. As such, he admits to having a little help in his selections from Ben Isaacs (@tweetsfromben). Nat also is a prominent supporter of Homeless Hounds, a charitable organisation that rescues and re-homes abandoned and abused dogs in Lancashire.
So, to this week’s Pick 6 games!
Clemson @ North Carolina – Saturday 28th September 20:30
Alex Chinery: Clemson
The Clemson train keeps rolling. UNC have been a great story so far, but are wildly inconsistent. I expect Trevor Lawrence to get right in this game, against a secondary who have a penchant for giving up big plays.
George Somerville: Clemson
Hard to see beyond Clemson, sadly. (George really hates Clemson – OH)
Oliver Hodgkinson: Clemson
UNC got off to a hot start, but fell to Appalachian State last week. Freshman QB Sam Howell will have a tough time against the likes of Xavier Thomas on the Clemson defense. Give me Trevor and Travis to trample the Tar Heels.
Nat Coombs: Clemson
Iowa State @ Baylor – Saturday 28th September 20:30
Alex Chinery: Iowa State
Brock Purdy hasn’t looked the same this season, after losing his big weapons to the draft. I trust his talent, and Matty Campbell’s coaching ability to get a win in this game. Iowa State is more talented than it has shown so far. This game could be fun.
George Somerville: Baylor
This is tough! I can’t quite make my mind up. But I think Baylor could have a reasonable year, and the game is in Waco. So, Baylor Bears for me!
Oliver Hodgkinson: Baylor
This is a sneaky good game for me. Iowa Sate are a slight favourite with the bookmakers, but I’m taking the 3-0 Baylor Bears. Don’t sleep on QB Charlie Brewer (53-73, 665yds, 7TDs), and star wide receiver Denzel Mims.
Nat Coombs: Iowa State
Kansas State @ Oklahoma State – Sunday 29th September 00:00
Alex Chinery: Oklahoma State
Kansas State has been a surprise top performer so far this season. However, I like this Cowboys rushing attack to get the job done this week. Chuba Hubbard is having a mental start to the season, and I expect that to continue here.
George Somerville: Oklahoma State
The Cowboys are building up a head of steam. The Wildcats are always a tricky fixture, but Cowboys win. Yeeha!
Oliver Hodgkinson: Oklahoma State
Chuba Hubbard leads the nation in rushing yards. Tylan Wallace is catching passes for fun. QB, Spencer Sanders, is just shy of 900 yards for the season. Oklahoma State knock off a top 25 team after running Texas close last week.
Nat Coombs: Oklahoma State
Ohio State @ Nebraska – Sunday 29th September 00:30
Alex Chinery: Ohio State
Whilst the Buckeyes uncanny ability to drop an early season conference game worries me, I think this season is different. the Field/Day axis on offense has been incredible so far. Nothing is stopping the Buckeyes.
George Somerville: Ohio State
The Cornhuskers have been pretty disappointing thus far, and the Buckeyes are on fire. Only one winner here, despite the game being in Lincoln.
Oliver Hodgkinson: Ohio State
Justin Fields has a field(s) day in Nebraska for the Buckeyes. I don’t think people are giving Ohio State enough credit for their performances so far this year. JK Dobbins looks back to his best, and Chase Young is destroying opposition offenses for fun.
Nat Coombs: Ohio State
Houston @ North Texas – Sunday 29th September 01:00
Alex Chinery: North Texas
D’Eriq King has quit a Houston team that is reeling after a late game loss to Tulane last week. They come up against a North Texas outfit that haven’t put it together thus far against good defences. Houston isn’t a good defense, give me Mason Fine and Mean Green.
George Somerville: North Texas
This should be Houston all day, every day. However, the Cougars have been a hot mess this year. I’m going Mean Green!
Oliver Hodgkinson: North Texas
It feels mad to say a team averaging 35 points a game, with a QB in Mason Fine who’s thrown nearly 1000 yards, has underperformed but that’s how it feels for North Texas. However, they face a Houston team with one of the worst defences in College Football and a QB crisis to boot.
Nat Coombs: North Texas
Washington State @ Utah – Sunday 29th September 03:00
Alex Chinery: Utah
Both of these programs are coming off bad losses last week. Utah have looked a bit shaky all year, but I expect their defensive talent to shine through here. Never count out Mike Leach’s charges though! The Air Raid guru can cook up an offensive masterclass that will leave Utah needing to score points to win. I remain to be convinced that they’re able to do.
George Somerville: Washington State
Tough one to call. I think Wazzu bounce back from their shock defeat to the Bruins.
Oliver Hodgkinson: Washington State
Two entertaining quarterbacks. Two great running backs. One entertaining game. Mike Leach’s WSU will have a chip on their shoulder and something to prove after last week’s catastrophic collapse against UCLA. State in a shootout for me!
Nat Coombs: Utah
