The Green Bay Packers have been the best team in the NFL over the regular season. But, do they have what it takes to lift the Lombardi Trophy in February?
Head coach Matt LaFleur and Quarterback Aaron Rodgers have led the Packers to their 3rd 13 win season in a row as they secured the number 1 seed in the NFC. A team that has had to shut out the noise and deal with covid issues, the Green Bay Packers have shown why they are worthy Super Bowl Champions.
Here are some of the reasons why they can win the Super Bowl.
Need we say more. Aaron Rodgers is the favourite to win MVP in 2021. That would make it 4 MVPs and counting for one of the greatest quarterbacks to have graced the National Football League.
While some may question his off the field antics, which have over shadowed his on field play at times, Rodgers’s on the field play has been nothing short of outstanding. He has maybe been playing with something to prove and to shut commentators up.
Aaron Rodgers has put this Green Bay Packers team on his back this season. Carrying the team through all the talk, all the adversity and the injury ridden games. He took the Packers to an unbeaten Arizona in week 8, with his offence heavily hit with covid and still put up 22/37, 184 yards, 2 touchdowns and a QB rating of 90.4. Aaron Rodgers is a difference maker and it is why he is the best in the business.
Remarkably, Rodgers has only thrown 4 interceptions all year and none since week 10! That has partly been down to the Packers having a good offensive balance and a capable running game. But, Rodgers has continued his fruitful relationship with wide receiver Davante Adams in 2021.
Adams himself has been written into record books. Becoming only the 6th receiver to have 600 catches, over 8000 yards and at least 70 touchdowns in their first 8 seasons.
Rodgers has led the Packers to 2 straight NFC Championship Games, losing both. Could this season be 3rd time lucky? A decade since his last Super Bowl win – Aaron Rodgers wants the second ring.
The Green Bay Packers are getting players back at just the right time. David Bakhtiari, Billy Turner, Za’Darius Smith and Jaire Alexander have all hit the injury list, but are all likely to be available for the postseason.
The Packers have looked the best team in the NFL and good enough to have a deep playoff push without them. With star players returning it only bolsters their cause.
NUMBER 1 SEED
Having locked up the #1 seed in the NFC, the road to the Super Bowl will go through Lambeau Field. The Packers will have home field advantage through the playoff bracket and The Packers will always be favourites with teams having to travel to Lambeau and take on the elements.
At Lambeau Field Aaron Rodgers is 86-19-1. A whopping 81.6% win rate. On top of that, Head Coach Matt LaFleur has a win percentage of almost 80% since he became a head coach in 2019.
By locking up the #1 seed the Packers not only lock up home field advantage, but they also have a bye straight through to the divisional round. The impact of that bye week and a week’s rest cannot be underestimated.
Since 1990, of the 62 #1 seeds, 32 went to the Super Bowl and 14 won it! That means 45.1% of the last 31 Super Bowl winners have come from the #1 seed. The Green Bay Packers can be the next.
