Houston Texans Mock Draft – 7 Rounds
Reading Time: 3 minutes.

Here is a 7 round Houston Texans mock draft for 2022.

Using our mock draft simulator, here is one look at who the Houston Texans might look at selecting in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Even though this does not include trades it does give an indication as to who may be available when the Texans pick.

So here it is – your Houston Texans Mock Draft.

Round 1: Pick 3 – KYLE HAMILTON – S – NOTRE DAME

If the Texans are going to rebuild properly the smart thing to do would be to simply draft the best available player throughout this draft. Starting with Kyle Hamilton with their first pick would be a shrewd move.

Round 1: Pick 13 – GEORGE KARLAFTIS – EDGE – PURDUE

Speaking of shrewd moves, George Karlaftis is definitely continuing to fly under the radar of most draftniks. His combination of size, power and athleticism will appeal to a large number of teams and his upside is significant.

Many rate Kyle Hamilton as the best player in the 2022 NFL Draft. Could he become a Houston Texan?

Round 2: Pick 37 – BERNHARD RAIMANN – OT – CENTRAL MICHIGAN

Even with Laremy Tunsil remaining on the team for now, the offensive tackle position is one the Texans would be wise to sure up. Bernhard Raimann generated a lot of buzz prior to the Senior Bowl and has all the tools to excel in the NFL.

Round 3: Pick 68 – KENNETH WALKER III – RB – MICHIGAN STATE

This is definitely a best available player selection given the holes on the rest of their roster. But for Houston, developing a reliable run game in support of Davis Mills will be critical and Kenneth Walker is RB1 for some.

Round 3: Pick 80 – KHALIL SHAKIR – WR – BOISE STATE

It’s not a secret that I’m a big fan of Khalil Shakir and if you haven’t watched any of his highlights then you really should. He’s a versatile receiver who could be moved around for matchup purposes and has brilliant hands.

Round 4: pick 107 – AKAYLEB EVANS – CB – MISSOURI

Evans is a tall, rangy cornerback with off-the-chart intangibles and an enticing skill set. As a mid-round corner there’s a lot to like and drafting him would give the Texans some additional secondary depth.

Round 4: pick 108 – JOHN RIDGEWAY – DT – ARKANSAS

Every defensive line needs a big run stuffer and John Ridgeway is that guy in spades, literally! He made a huge impression at Arkansas in 2021 and could easily do the same for this Texans defense in 2022.

Round 6: pick 183 – ZAKOBY MCCLAIN – LB – AUBURN

What Zakoby McClain lacks in the stature normally required to play linebacker, he makes up for in heart. That should see him fit in as a core Special Teams player.

Round 6: Pick 205 – GRANT CALCATERRA – TE – SMU

Teams will often look for blocking tight ends in the late rounds but that’s not what the Texans are getting here. Calcaterra is pretty much an oversized wide receiver who presents matchup problems in the red zone in particular.

Round 6: Pick 207 – SKYLAR THOMPSON – QB – KANSAS STATE

While the Texans are seemingly set on Davis Mills as their QB, taking a flyer on a late round developmental option is never a bad idea.

Round 7: Pick 245 – LOGAN BRUSS – OT – WISCONSIN

Bruss has played both guard and tackle for Wisconsin so will bring flexibility and experience. He’s more likely to play on the right side given his skill set lends itself well to run blocking.
