They weren’t on our Pick 6 slate last week but we’re fairly sure no-one would have predicted some of the results from College Football in Week 3! Citadel over Georgia Tech? Kansas coming in to Chestnut Hill and turning over Boston College? Air Force winning in Colorado? No-one saw these games coming!
We’re getting the crystal ball back out for Week 4. Our weekly predictions piece sees us pick 6 games from the College Football schedule and predict the winners. Each week we’re joined by a guest picker, who contributes towards a guest season total. All the guests go head to head during the season for their own guest leaderboard.
Last week we were joined by Dane Brugler of The Athletic. Dane took the overall lead on the guest leaderboard with a score of 5, having been let down only by Purdue. Our George Somerville let go of the overall lead after a disastrous week with only two right. How quickly you can slip from first to worst!
Predictions Table After Week 3:
- Guests – 13
- Alex Chinery – 12
- Oliver Hodgkinson – 12
- George Somerville – 10
Guest Leaderboard After Week 3:
- Dane Brugler – 5
- Brian Baldinger – 4
- Trevor Sikemma – 4
This week we’re joined by the team at NFL Draft Diamonds. They are a website that is dedicated to raising the profile of small school draft prospects. Their site includes some fantastic interviews with NFL Draft prospects, football news from all forms of the game, and information on roster moves. You can find them at nfldraftdiamonds.com or on Twitter at @DraftDiamonds.
So, to this week’s games!
Michigan @ Wisconsin – Saturday 21st September 17:00
Alex Chinery: Wisconsin
Jonathan Taylor is getting Heisman buzz, Michigan is drowning in offensive ineptitude. Give me the Badgers in a classic Big 10 arm wrestle.
George Somerville: Wisconsin
The first real test of the season for the Badgers, albeit they have scored 110 points over two games so far. Michigan have been at best unconvincing to date, and are as always , unpredictable. I’m going with the home team. Badgers win.
Oliver Hodgkinson: Wisconsin
Despite having a lot of offensive talent, Michigan are hamstrung by uncertainty at the QB position. When will Jim realise that Shea Patterson isn’t it? No such problem for Wisconsin with the focus firmly on RB Jonathan Taylor.
NFL Draft Diamonds: Wisconsin
Michigan loses in overtime when they fail to convert and Quintez Cephus, the junior wideout who was reinstated by Wisconsin, scores to put the Wolverines away. Wisconsin wins in OT, 34-28.
Auburn @ Texas A & M – Saturday 21st September 20:30
Alex Chinery: Auburn
Auburn has shown its big game chops already this season. They come out on top here.
George Somerville: Auburn
The Jimbo train has left the station and I’m not aboard. Auburn’s impressive defensive display against Oregon is enough to push me towards the Tigers. #WarDamnEagle
Oliver Hodgkinson: Auburn
The Auburn defense is one of the best units in the nation, and they show that on Saturday evening in shutting down Kellen Mond. On offense, watch for Jatavious Whitlow to shine in an Auburn win.
NFL Draft Diamonds: Texas A & M
I am taking the underdog here in Texas A & M. They have had great quarterback play from junior Kellen Mond and I expect a huge game from Jhavon Ausbon. Texas A & M wins 35-24 over Auburn.
Oregon @ Stanford – Sunday 22nd September 00:00
Alex Chinery: Oregon
Stanford is beat up and just plain bad. Oregon has bounced back nicely from their week 1 loss. Big Ducks win.
George Somerville: Oregon
As they say, an elephant never forgets, and neither does George. I had the Cards over UCF last weekend and that was the weakest defense ever seen out of Palo Alto. And Oregon are good. Ducks all the way.
Oliver Hodgkinson: Oregon
It’s Oregon and it’s not close. Stanford have been out of sorts, and the loss of Walker Little is a big part of this. Justin Herbert continues his fine run of form, putting together a case to be QB1 next spring.
NFL Draft Diamonds: Oregon
Oregon blows out Stanford and covers the 10.5 points. Herbert has a huge game and throws for 300 plus yards. Final score: 47-27, Ducks.
Oklahoma State @ Texas – Sunday 22nd September 00:30
Alex Chinery: Texas
For as fun as the Cowboys are, the Longhorns have better athletes and better coaching. Ehlinger is quietly having a monster season. He will be the difference.
George Somerville: Texas
While The Cowboys are 3-0 and posting some numbers, it’s Texas in Austin. Which is in Texas. It would seem a bad thing to mess with Texas. In Texas. Longhorns to win! #HornsUp
Oliver Hodgkinson: Texas
As much as I would love to put Chuba Hubbard as a game winner for State, I think this Texas team will be too strong all around for the Cowboys.
NFL Draft Diamonds: Texas
Texas wins by 11 in a high scoring game. The big difference is the Texas defense, causing freshman Spencer Sanders to throw two interceptions. Chuba Hubbard has a huge game, but it’s not enough. Texas wins 56-45.
Notre Dame @ Georgia – Sunday 22nd September 01:00
Alex Chinery: Georgia
Georgia is somewhat flying under the radar. That changes as they stomp Notre Dame in Athens.
George Somerville: Georgia
Game of the weekend for me. The Irish have started better than I thought they would and Ian Book is looking in the mood. But, I think Georgia could be in that top two come the end of the year, so Dawgs to squeak through in a tight game.
Oliver Hodgkinson: Georgia
Notre Dame has had issues stopping the run in their opening two games and now they have to take on a Georgia team that has D’Andre Swift. Expect Swift to have a big day on the way to a Bulldogs win.
NFL Draft Diamonds: Georgia
This game is all Georgia and Jake Fromm. The Bulldogs manhandle the Irish. Fromm throws for 300 and the Bulldogs win 42-17.
Colorado @ Arizona State – Sunday 22nd September 03:00
Alex Chinery: Colorado
Colorado to bounce back, Arizona to disappoint with a let down after their shock win last week against Michigan State.
George Somerville: Arizona State
This is real hard to predict. After the win over Nebraska I would have said the Buffs, but then they lose to Air Force. Meanwhile, Herm’s Heroes came away with a very impressive win against Michigan State to signal that the Sun Devils defense is for real. I think this is close but it’s Sun Devils for me. #ForksUp
Oliver Hodgkinson: Arizona State
The ASU defense will have their hands full with Laviska Shenault. The best way to keep him quiet is to keep him off the field and that comes from a strong running game. Expect Eno Benjamin to see plenty of the ball. That bodes well for our College Chaps fantasy team.
NFL Draft Diamonds: Arizona State
Arizona State keeps winning and they beat up on the CU. ASU running back Eno Benjamin rushes for 150 yards and they are able to beat Colorado 24-21.
