NFL POWER RANKINGS ANALYSIS

TOP HALF

The Arizona Cardinals fall off the top spot for the first time in weeks! The previously undefeated team lost in the dying moments to Green Bay. If only AJ Green had turned around and caught that ball! Now JJ Watt is likely out for the season and Kyler Murray is dealing with an ankle injury.

Despite having a great recieving core around him, we have learnt that for Arizona to compete, Kyler Murray has to play perfectly. They fell off a cliff in the second half of last season. The Cardinals fall to #5 due to the injury concerns. Even if Kyler Murray is fit – he won’t be at 100%.

The LA Rams replace them at the top. Their game was over after the first quarter, which allowed them to rest some starters and give some playing time to thier backups. It can quite easily be argued that QB Matthew Stafford is an MVP front runner as the Rams continue to roll.

There were 2 big results for backup QBs in week 8. Both the Cowboys & the Saints managed to bag vital wins.

Outside of the top 10, there has been big movement to teams in the AFC North. The Bengals fell after a disasterous result against the Jets. The backup QB of the Jets at that! While, the Steelers dogged out a win against a Browns team who were useless on offense. After a promising start, in which the Browns looked like contenders, things have gone dramatically down hill.

BOTTOM HALF

Washington vs. Giants final score: Taylor Heinicke leads WFT to a wild win over Daniel Jones, New York - DraftKings Nation

No one saw this season from Washington coming. There was always the potential for trouble at QB, but this defence was all set to be elite. Nothing has gone right over in D.C.. Chase Young was all set for a run at DPOY, but has looked worse than he did in his rookie year, while the offence haven’t been able to consistently put it together.

The Jets, of course, rise after their fantastic win against the top 10 rated Bengals, with Mike White under centre. While the Panthers and Seahawks also rise after wins in week 8.

The Colts fall, despite taking a good Titans team to overtime. But, in fact the Colts should have had that game wrapped up before overtime, if it wasn’t for Carson Wentz and some poor decison making.

The Texans and the Lions continue to look like they are fighting over the #1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. It was always going to be an unhill battle for the Texans, but the Lions were liked by some to show what they had against the Eagles. Instead this Jalen Hurts led Philly team raced out in to a huge lead, which Detroit was never going to recover from. This Lions team is bad, and while you can see the culture they are trying to build, they need to stock up on good football players and draft the best players available in the off season.
