DEMARVION OVERSHOWN – LB – TEXAS
DeMarvion Overshown returned from concussion protocol on Monday, giving a huge boost to the Longhorns ahead of Baylor.
A safety convert, Overshown has risen up draft boards since converting to linebacker. A smooth transition, he recorded 60 tackles, 2 sacks and an interception in his maiden season in 2020 and has carried that form into 2021.
A long, rangy, athletic linebacker, Overshown is a versatile player who plays with speed and power. He is great in short areas when he needs to blitz. But, it is in coverage which Overshown thrives the most. Understandable given his background.
As a pure off the ball linebacker, Overshown is fluid enough to move sideline to sideline. He is a mismatch in pass protection and possesses the closing speed to be disruptive in the run game.
Overshown has raised his draft stock again in 2021 and has shown that he is coachable with such a raw skill set. As a day 2 pick Overshown will be loved by NFL defensive coordinators. If he can finish the back half of the season strong, he can continue to climb.
OWEN PAPPOE – LB – AUBURN
Sidelined for over 5 weeks since suffering a lower body injury against Penn State, it has been largely hinted that Owen Pappoe will return to the field this weekend.
In 2020 Pappoe had a total of 93 tackles and was a bright spot on the Tigers’ defence.
Another super athletic linebacker, Pappoe is a player we expect to rise as we head towards the NFL Draft. He will test like a freak, but he has also shown he can convert the freakish athleticism onto the field.
Pappoe is a linebacker who flourishes in coverage. He has a good natural instinct and has shown he can cover the best of them in the SEC. He has the size and quickness to cover bigger wide receivers over the middle in the NFL. Plus, when in coverage he can change direction in one stride and displays the movement and agility to stick with the opposition.
Apparently able to run a sub 4.4 40 yard dash, Pappoe also displays the explosiveness to be disruptive at the line of scrimmage. He has good functional strength to blitz when needed. He has the power to engage blockers and shrug them off.
Pappoe is clearly a player who is still improving. With the athletic profile he has, Pappoe will be talked about more as we move closer to the 2022 draft. A former 5 star, expect Pappoe to be spoken about more in the coming months.
THAYER MUNFORD – OL – OHIO STATE
A versatile offensive lineman, Thayer Munford was a first team All Big 10 selection at tackle last season. Returning to the Buckeyes in 2021, he has now switched to guard and is putting in a really good year.
Munford is a big 6’6” lineman who has really good movement skills for a player of his size. His footwork is active and he has the mobility to move laterally across the line. Munford’s experience is telling, as his football intelligence is excellent. He is able to move bodies in the run game and his transition to guard has been seamless. Munford can pick up blitzes and read the defense pre-snap and has shown he is a leader on what is an extremely good Ohio State offensive line.
Munford’s play in 2021 has seen him become one of 12 semifinalists for the Lombardi Award. His experience and versatility will be welcomed to an NFL team come the 2022 NFL Draft and you can expect him to be a solid lineman in the NFL.
DONTARIO DRUMMOND – WR – OLE MISS
Dontario Drummond is a player who has made the most of his opportunity, returning to Ole Miss due to the extra year of eligibility for seniors. 619 yards on the season with 6 touchdowns, Drummond is averaging just over 17 yards per reception in 2021 and has been a dynamic playmaker for the Rebels.
Drummond is a big play waiting to happen and has been a fantastic deep threat for Ole Miss in 2021. A favourite target Drummond has been an impact player. Able to be versatile in his line up and having a diverse route tree it is not difficult to see why Drummond has taken the next step this season.
A former JUCO standout, Drummond will be 25 by the time he reaches the NFL. Age may not be on his side, but as a later round pick, Drummond has the talent and production to hear his name called.
ERIK EZUKANMA – WR – TEXAS TECH
Erik Ezukanma has risen phenomenally through the 2021 season. 508 yards and 1 TD threw the air while also scoring 2 TDs and 74 yards on the ground, Ezukanma is a dynamic playmaker who is a threat at all levels of the field.
At 6’3”, 220 lbs Ezukanma is a huge receiver who combines his fantastic size with great athleticism. He can line up anywhere on an offense and will be a dynamic threat in the NFL. Ezukanma is superb after the catch. Having fantastic balance and speed, he has some traits that are usually aligned to running backs rather than receivers. His ability to ride contact is remarkable and he can change direction in an instant.
Combine the yard after catch ability, which is valued so highly in the NFL, with Ezukanma’s ability to simply catch the ball with ease, due to his strong hands, and he can be a deadly weapon.
Ezukanma is a rare prospect who is able to keep on ascending throughout the draft process. A threat in all 3 levels, he will be converted by NFL teams come the 2022 NFL Draft.
