BACKGROUND

Kelee Ringo is one of the most exciting prospects ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft. A physical, but speedy corner, Ringo could be a top cornerback drafted in 2023.

Born in Tacoma, Washington, Ringo attended Saguaro High School in Arizona. He was a consensus 5-star prospect coming out of high school, where he was the #1 corner and the #4 prospect nationally from 247Sports and committed to Georgia.

Not only was Ringo an excellent football player, but he was also a world-class sprinter. In high school, he recorded a 100-meter time of 10.43 seconds as well as a 200-meter time of 21.18. Those were the top times in the state of Arizona and it meant he took home state titles for both disciplines in 2019.

After redshirting his first season as a Bulldog in 2020 due to a labrum injury, Ringo became the full-time starter in 2021 and he did not disappoint.

In 2021 he played 15 games had 34 total tackles, 26 solo tackles, 8 passes defended, 1 sack and 2 interceptions. He also had a 79-yard pick-six against Alabama in the National Championship game!

Kelee Ringo’s absurd speed paired with his physicality has proven formidable for the Georgia Bulldogs and his athletic profile will see him drafted highly.

STRENGTHS

  • Fundamentals
  • Size
  • Physicality & toughness
  • Blazing Speed

Physical and athletic. Those two words will be repeated a lot when talking about Ringo. A twitchy and explosive athlete, he has more than enough athleticism to play corner in the NFL. Athleticism is key for NFL corners and Ringo has it in bounds. You can see that from his extremely impressive 100-meter time and reportedly he is also able to run a 40-yard dash in the 4.3s. He has more than enough speed to stay with receivers. The fact he will test really well throughout the draft process will also see his draft stock rise even more.

Not only is he quick, but he is also fluid. He has the flexibility to flip his hips which leads him to have the body control to stick with the speediest of receivers and track the ball brilliantly.

Ringo also can press off the line of scrimmage extremely well, due to his physicality. He uses his size and natural leverage to pressure and disrupt at the line, where he can be aggressive to push and shove his opponent. He has the ability to physically overwhelm his man and while he can be overly aggressive, you certainly don’t want him to lose that element of his game.

That physicality translates to him being more than strong enough as a tackler, he can support the run defence also, but, it shows up at the catch point. His size makes him a mismatch where he can use his speed, size, physicality and ball skills to get pass breakups and interceptions.

Kelee Ringo has all the fundamentals to be an excellent NFL cornerback. He has the resilience and physical make-up to be drafted highly.

WEAKNESSES

  • Situational awareness
  • Discipline
  • Raw

For all the strengths that Kelee Ringo has, he is still extremely raw, having only 1 year of experience with the Bulldogs. Inevitably, this means he does have some areas to work on, but he should have the confidence and potential to clean them up.

The first being he needs to stick with routes better. While he doesn’t give up much separation he can over-commit due to his speed. He has a tendency to rashly bite and take an extra step which means receivers can create a yard of separation in their cuts.

This also comes down to some situational awareness, where he still needs to read and diagnose more appropriately, recognising routes and where the space is. Ringo can also be fooled far too easily, biting on fakes and while he has the pace to recover it is sometimes too late.

It all comes down to him continuing to learn, improving his attention, attentiveness and becoming more cautious and aware.

SUMMARY

Kelee Ringo has the foundations, fundamentals and principles to be an outstanding cornerback at the next level. He has the size, physicality, and athletic elements to make him extremely sort after in the NFL Draft.

NFL teams will fall in love with what he has and he will be a major player in the 2023 NFL Draft class. While he does have some instinctual and situational awareness skills to work on, as he becomes more experienced, that extra game time will help bolster his draft stock.
