With some big names missing and the Texans still vastly unsettled you would have to fancy the Titans in the game on Sunday 09.01.22 (18:00 kick off) but, as we all know, anything can happen.
The Texans beat the Titans back in week 11 causing Ryan Tannehill some serious issues and taking the game 22-13 so you can bet they are watching the tapes back and seeing what worked and what didn’t.
Davis Mills at quarterback had somewhat of a mixed bag against San Francisco in week 17. The offensive line has struggled up front really failing to protect their QB all season allowing 42 sacks on them. Davis Mills goes into Sunday’s match-up having started 6 times at home with one interception for a passer rating of 106.2.
Brandon Cooks week 17 performance against San Fran saw 11 targets, 7 receptions, going 66 yards and one touchdown making him Mills’ favourite target this season (boy, am I pleased I drafted him!). Kristian Fulton is expected to be playing coverage on Cooks in week 18 – may be a real match-up and could be a game decider.
Houston’s rush defence has struggled this year, as has their pass defence allowing 7.9 yards on average. It hasn’t been all doom and gloom though with several picks throughout the season totalling 17 to date including 4 times against Ryan Tannehill in week 11.
Firstly their defence is taking shape and taking over games with 41 sacks tying for 9th in the league and 11th in the league with QB hits.
With 4 sacks last week against Miami, a game they went on to win 34-03 giving them a record of 11-5 on the season, the Titans have been without their key running back for a while now but haven’t really shown much sign of slowing down on the ground run game. Derrick Henry is now coming back from IR and should be ready for a playoff run which I think the Titans may have the talent to go deep into.
The pass rush has been outstanding of late and was massively impressive on Sunday against the Dolphins containing the offensive and putting massive pressure on QB.
D’onta Fullman had an impressive game last week with 26 carries over 132 yards on the ground and a touchdown – impressive stuff.
As for Ryan Tannehill, in their last meeting he made some glaring mistakes as mentioned and was picked off 4 times. Throwing for 323 yards, 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions back in week 11. If the Titans can get their running game going on Sunday they are the clear favourites given their recent wins and conclusive win against Miami.
I really like the Titans for this one, looking to lock up the AFC South and with their key running back looking at returning maybe, just maybe, a serious Superbowl contender. My score prediction is 23-10 to the Titans locking up the 1st seed in the AFC South.
